Construction Labourer

CWP Constructors is looking for local, experienced Construction Labourers to start April 2016!

This position requires knowledge of the heavy construction industry. Specifically the practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety (OH&S legislation) associated with this industry.

Duties of this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Clean and perform preparation of work-site
  • Operate jackhammers and drills
  • Place, consolidate, and protect case-in-place concrete structures
  • Position, join, align, and seal structural components
  • Shovel cement and other materials into portable cement mixers
  • Mix, pour, and spread concrete
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
  • Smooth and finish freshly poured cement or concrete, using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered cement finishing tools
  • Spray materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, or stucco through hoses to clean, coat, or seal surfaces
  • Utilize pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment, or to heat and move materials such as asphalt
  • Lubricate, clean, maintain and repair machinery, equipment, and tools
  • Build and position forms for pouring concrete, and dismantle forms after use
  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
  • Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, compact and level earth to grade specifications, using appropriate tools
  • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures
  • Grind, scrape, sand, or polish surfaces using abrasive tools or machines
  • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications
  • Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed
  • Mix ingredients to create compounds for covering or cleaning surfaces
  • Provide assistance to craft workers, such as carpenters and concrete finishers
  • Perform demolition work and salvage useful materials
  • Read and interpret plans, instructions, blueprints, structural drawings, rough sketches, and specifications to determine work activities
  • Identify, pack, and transport hazardous materials
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. repetitively
  • Work is outdoors
  • Participating in daily tool-box talks
  • Reviewing and preparing daily Field Level Hazard Assessments
  • Participating in weekly safety meetings
  • Ensuring proper PPE is used for all tasks
  • Other duties as required

Working Conditions:

  • Minimum 8 hours daily plus overtime as required
  • Exposure to cold/hot weather. Appropriate dress required for weather conditions
  • Exposure to noise, dust, pollution
  • Exposure to hazards such as heights, power tools, slips, falls, falling objects, sharp hand tools
  • Ability to stand, crouch and kneel for long periods of time

Requirements:

  • CSTS-09 ticket
  • Must have previous concrete experience
